 Born on July 15, 1939, in Xiantao City, Hubei Province, China, Qian Guanlian graduated from Department of Foreign Languages of Normal University of Central China in 1962. In 1981-1982, he went to Wuhan University for advanced study of English-American literature, then, in 1983-1984, to Fudan University, Shanghai, also for advanced research in English-American literature, linguistics and stylistics. As visiting professor, he was at work on pragmatics in the Research Center for International Pragmatics Association ( IPrA, located in Antwerp, Belgium ) in 1992-1993. ........
